Raku (critter)
The name “Raku” is something that we made up, mostly. We live on a rural property on an island in the Pacific Northwest, and we’re fortunate to live with the local wildlife, including raccoons. We’re wary of the raccoons because we have dogs – we don’t want them to have interactions, but we occasionally get visits from raccoons and their babies…and they are mighty cute.
So you might say that “Raku” was inspired by the clever and cute.
We’ve also been told that “Raku” means “easy going” in Japanese. We like that, too. (And apparently, raku pottery is also a thing – that means nothing to us…we are not avid sailor-potters, but maybe it’ll be something to explore in the future).
