2014 GBCA Yachtsman of the Year. Wow!
Wow! I think Chris & I have said that about 10 times in the last two days. On Saturday we drove the 3 hours to Seabrook, on the shores of Galveston Bay to attend the GBCA Commodore’s Ball. We took advantage of the trip to drop off a car load of used boat equipment we’d collected over the last 3 years at the local used boat store. The Commodore’s Ball consisted of dinner, awards, and dancing. It was really nice to reconnect with the people we’d met last year while preparing Shearwater for Pacific Cup. The awards started off with the Rum Race and Icicle Series awards and then they presented the 2014 Yachtsman of the Year Award. Darned if Chris & I didn’t win that award.
To say we were surprised, honored, and grateful would be an understatement. This is a perpetual trophy, naturally a big silver bowl, and the list of previous winners are truly great sailors. Just to be on the same list as the other 2014 nominees was an honor.
A huge thank you to GBCA and its members for the vote of confidence. It is a reminder that big adventures can be an inspiration for many people, even those we don’t know (yet). There is no question the support of the local sailing community, the well attended racing, and the great sailing on Galveston Bay helped make our race to Hawaii a success.
We are really looking forward to bringing Spadefoot, our new to us Schumacher 28, down to the Bay for sailing fun.
Thanks again GBCA!

Congratulations to a wonderful couple. What an honor!
It appears that you and Chris are the only two that were surprised. The rest of us have been saying WOW for a long time.
Great to meet you. Sounds well deserved.
Wow! I can imagine you get that a lot, too. Well done. I love your senses of adventure. You make us proud.
Congrats. Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Gary
