Excuse me, Spadefoot, how much do you weigh?
Answer – I have no idea.
This is a big mystery that will be definitively solved on May 25, 2016. That is the date we are having Spadefoot weighed and measured for a certified PHRF rating needed for Pacific Cup 2016. Ironically, the original owner, Dick Horn, will be doing the weigh-in. The old After Math PHRF certificate says the boat weighs 3,572 pounds. The original drawings say 2,800 pounds for a fiberglass (not carbon) construction. The for sale listing said the boat weighs 3,060 pounds. Â Comparing Spadefoot to similar boats like the Express 27, Tripp 26, and J/80 and looking at how she floats on water suggests Spadefoot may weigh as little as 2,400 pounds. Based on all the information I have, including performance, my guess is Spadefoot weighs between 2,600 and 2,700 pounds. Can’t wait to find out the real number.
