Toto, we’re not in Austin anymore
Road Trip complete…
Spadefoot, Oren, and I spent about 30 hours driving from Austin to Richmond Yacht Club. 1727 miles. The trip, spread over 3 days, was uneventful except the 20-30mph headwinds we had across most of New Mexico, Arizona, and California. At times we going 55 mph due to the wind and getting 7.5 mpg. It was still all good and we arrived to RYC early enough today to get Spadefoot in the water and the rig up. Tomorrow Rachel, Oren, and I will take Spadefoot for a spin around the bay and do our emergency rudder test for Pacific Cup. Chris drives down from Bellingham with some essentials from Shearwater (liferaft and SOLAS flares are two of the major items). The rental car is already packed and she will be ready to roll bright and early tomorrow morning. On Thursday we get Spadefoot weighed and measured, then inspected for Pacific Cup. Also, we’ll be “delivering” the truck and trailer to Monterey. On Friday Chris, Rachel, Oren, and I are racing Spadefoot from San Francisco to Monterey in the Spinnaker Cup. There are about 60 boats registered and 19 in our class. The forecast looks solid with moderate reaching conditions turning into breezy running. Exactly what the 60 boats are hoping for. Can’t wait to see what Spadefoot can do on the ocean.
This is shaping up to be a fun homecoming for Spadefoot. RYC was her home for about 10 years and already a few people have walked by and asked what kind of boat and then realized it is the old After Math. Good times.

Wow, it is all coming together. Have a great time and be safe. Mom
Keep crossing off that “to-do” list and before you know it, you’re in Hawaii ahead of everyone else! Hang in there – so proud of you both and so thankful you have such incredible friends to assist and support along the way. “Many hands make light work” is a gift to be treasured.
Love,
Dad
