EOD 3 – Planes, but no planing (yet)!
July 8, 2022
Things are going well onboard Raku. We are into our offshore routines now – watch schedules have been ~2.5 hours off, and for the most part, we’re bunking in the quarterberth or in the beanbag. Earplugs do help a lot (we have a whistle on deck if the other person is really needed), and I pulled out the eyemask for the first time because it is SO SUNNY. We’re focusing on finishing up the fresh food we brought with us. Our cold chicken tenders from Safeway were jettisoned overboard – Justin thought they tasted funny, so I wasn’t even going to question it. No stomach issues, thankfully. We’re still working through Wayne’s cookies, so that is super.
We’re finally feeling like we’re headed towards Hawaii, rather than Mexico, which is great. We’re being pretty disciplined about the routing, but it’s hard to stomach the extra miles sometimes. Hopefully it is a good plan, and we’ll avoid this light air, high pressure.
We had several very low flybys from military planes – they must have been less than 500 feet in altitude and less than a 0.5 mi away. Maybe we looked interesting?
Good conditions for sailing so far – no planing yet, but that’ll come (along with shorter watches for those more challenging driving conditions). We’re trying right now to bank the rest as best we can.
