Retrofit: Project #1 complete!
There is no denying that Shearwater could use some TLC and some upgrades, but we knew that going in, and the upside is that when we are done (Ha! Who are we kidding, we’ll never be done with projects), she will be much more new than the typical 1997 J/120. One of the biggest projects was to have new interiors cushions made to replace the original, worn out, saltwater soaked, not very nice looking cushions. We decided to have the settee cushions made with ultrasuede covers. Ultrasuede wears extremely well, is stain resistant, and feels nice to the touch. The berth cushions are now covered in sunbrella. We chose sunbrella because it is really durable and somewhat waterproof so it should keep the foam drier in the event of a little more than a little water coming down the hatch. We also thought it a bit fun to have different fabrics designs for the settees and berths.
Below are the before photos and the after photos. To be honest we haven’t actually seen the new cushions yet ourselves, but from the pictures they look like what we hoping for.
