Day 1 – Leaving Annapolis
> We managed to cross the last few things off the list and pulled away from the dock, relieved to be on our way. The weather has been Texas-hot, with a bit more humidity and many more mosquitoes. We only had a dozen or so super challenges, ranging from a minor crisis trying to chase down an Ethernet cable (a rare find nowadays) to deal with a sat phone glitch (thank you, Forest and Katie at Forbes Horton Yachts for lending us that cable!) and the ever present ‘how much fun can you have with a diesel engine when you are trying to do all the “correct” maintenance items’? The big t-storm event last Friday has been affecting all of Annapolis and the mid-Atlantic region, with trickle down effects that we have felt, including gas stations running out of fuel, closed stores and the like. The saddest part was that the dockmaster who has been so helpful to us at Jabins Yacht Yard where we have been keeping the boat lost his 25-year old son when a tree fell on his car. All of our challenges pale in comparison to what the yard and that family are going through. > > We are motoring through the glassiest of waters in the Chesapeake and will be transiting the C&D canal later this evening. We had some clouds and felt refreshed enough to putter some more on the rigging – playing with fisherman’s knots to secure some Spectra and getting our jacklines set.
